Any developer who can maintain this, please do. From what I gather, the current
developer is Thomas Winischhofer and the link in the sis man page to the sis
driver for linux project is broken (has been turned into a link farm):

The problem is not solved as the sis driver does not auto-detect and
correct this by default As well, this does get rid of the color/snow
issue, yet there are still white horizontal lines which show up once in
a while (more frequent when watching video). Marking bug as confirmed as
a fix has not be

Hi everybody,
after using vesa for quite some time I finally had time to try what komputes
said. Good news, it worked:)
So this seems to be the solution to this bug, just adding sisfb in /etc/modules
