I have similar issue with HP 7400. Intel 945. UXA. In ~50% cases,
instead of the session, I am getting gdm login screen - the session is
lost.

Hi, my suspend caused X/GDM to restart too, but stopping the bluetooth
daemon fixed it. However, you must stop it using sudo. If using the
10bluetooth_stop script above, be sure to change the owner to root
("sudo chown root:root 10bluetooth_stop")

I tried something else and I think I managed to kill two birds with one
stone. I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.30-rc4 (followed this guide:

jaunty/ ) and not only resume from suspend seems to be working fine now

The fix seems to be working for me. Although i have experienced being
kicked out to the gdm screen a few times - for some reason this only
happens when the computer is on AC power. Another time i noticed that it
happened after suspending by closing the lid.

After of hundreds suspend/resume those days I think I found a solution!!
at least for me
Comment out the line 31 "#resume_bluetooth" of the file
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/49bluetooth
is no need to resume because the daemon is already stopped!
Reboot the system before try to suspend/resume

I can confirm above behaviour. Hardware switching off of bluetooth led
to a successful resume at short notice but a return to GDM login screen
if left for a while (in my case an hour). This was with UXA enabled.
Bluetooth gave no errors in the pm-suspend.log. .. the bug is far from
resolved.

Thanks for your help George but this trick didn't work. I killed
wireless with hardware switch and put my stinkpad to sleep. I resumed it
after 10 minutes just to be greeted with GDM... Sigh

I've just discovered that I'm still having this problem - the session is
lost after I resume from suspend... It seems to work if laptop is
suspended only for a short period of time, like in the above posts, when
I was suspending it for few seconds for testing purposes. But when I
suspended it and l
Yeah, there seems to be something wrong with my bluetooth or perhaps the
way ubuntu handles it. When I issued "/etc/init.d/bluetooth stop" it
said that stopping went fine but when I checked with
"/etc/init.d/bluetooth status" it was still running. Killing wireless

close bluetooth and wifi, and resume worked. This is on a fresh install
