You have been subscribed to a public bug: I already had updated everything since 2 days ago or so.. so should have been running 9.04.06
Did a sudo apt-get update (it fetched about 180) sudo apt-get dist-upgrade asked to restart. Computer restarted, saw the new Ubuntu loading screen (which is aesthetically pleasing) then after the computer freezes between the ubuntu loading and when then splash screen should show up. Couldn't take a screen shot--but this is the best picture i could come up with. http://s5.tinypic.com/14lh4s0.jpg (of course the background is black, the 5 small things at the top look like very minature ubuntu loading screens-blurred of course) Attempted to go back to previous kernels--result was unsuccessful. All kernels froze at the time the splash screen should have appeared. Attempted to recover--result was that was able to log in as root, however, not sure exactly how to connect to an access point and download any new updates that may fix this problem. Attempted to boot from 8.04 live cd--result was successful (obviously). Copied a couple files from the filesys to windows...but not sure which files i should really check out. I did see some error about synaptics... wrote it down: Synaptics was reset on resume. See synaptics-resume-reset also: MMC0: Unknown controller version(2) I'm completely stuck. I was able to access the root terminal account by selecting the recovery kernel. Was able to: iwconfig wan0 essid router and do a apt-get update and it found about 80 more packages. However upgrading did not help. I can boot from a live 8.04 cd and copy over some files to vista and upload them if it helps. Just let me know which logs need to be posted. Attached is what I already thought might be useful. *also, i thought perhaps it was a gdm problem, so I apt-get install kde and that resulted in the same thing. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 9.04 boot fglrx jaunty xorg -- 9.04 Failure to boot after dist-upgrade https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/345264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
