I would propose to close this bug as no one really cares and most probably will never get assigned and eventually fixed. It seems like xsessionrc is the one config file to use, i guess if one wants xsession too it has only to change that in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/40x11-common_xsessionrc -- Jaunty

Well, actually linking .xsessionrc to .xinitrc breaks my system ... No login (some xrdb error message). But manifestly in this case it was sourced. So is having my login broken the correct behaviour ? Will search about this xrdb error. I' m an average user step-upgrading since 6.04 if 'm not wro

I have tried on Hardy, Intrepid, and Jaunty, and they are all consistent in their behavior where .xsession is concerned. The only way to have .xsession executed is to select the 'Run Xclient script' session type in gdm. Note that .xsession is not "sourced" in any of these releases, but executed,

I disagree. Can´t see since when .xsessionrc is the default sourced file, this would be against a lot of legacy. Yes it was so if the scripts look the same the issue is elsewhere, that´s exactly the point. Maybe a permission issue. And in the scripts if you read all of them you will find that usex

I don't believe that this bug is valid. My read of the scripts in Xsession.d is that .xsessionrc will be sourced no matter what session you choose, not .xsession or .xinitrc. I don't know why your .xinitrc was being sourced in previous releases, because the scripts look the same to me, at least ba
