OK,
after upgrading the ati driver seems to work well with the card (which
definitely was not the case the days before I've opened the bug, because
the ati driver is where I started to solve problems.
However, the ati driver does not seem to support the HDMI audio. An HDMI
audio device appears,

I've tried different drivers, such as radeonhd and fglrx.
I've forced the resolution into 1440x900, since the computer is
connected via HDMI to a flat panel TV, which has a physical resolution
of 1440x900, but always lists these resolutions for multimedia
compatibility:

As I said in comment 2, the default driver which we support for this
card is the ati driver. So please remove your xorg.conf and attach the
Xorg.0.log that you get.

(and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've
