I have the same problem with my ATI FireGL 3600 card. No problem if I use the xorg radeonhd driver. But with the ATI catalyst driver, gdm and gnome don't use the full screen space/resolution : it is centered, with a black border for unused part of screen -- Wrong resolution on ATI Radeon HD 4670

I have found a similar problem described for a different video card, look at bug 281486 . I have applied the following workaround as described on the bug comments (it works): In order to do this, edit the /etc/gdm/Init/Default file (a script run @ the start of gdm), and insert a line similar to t
