It seems to be related yes, I made a patched libxcb for bug 277069 and
it solved the issue.
Though the difference here is that firefox showed the bug for both
intrepid and jaunty while that inkscape and gimp issue only showed up
with jaunty.
Yes, this is a regression.

To troubleshoot, either
- try to open inkscape doing DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0 inkscape if tcp connections
to X are allowed
- ssh -X y...@localhost , and start inkscape.
You are going to experience the trouble.
I will gladly provide any other information needed to troubleshoot if
you tell me more
@Benoit St-André, is this a regression? Were you previously able to do
this without problems? If so, in which version of Ubuntu?
