Using the Alpha 5 Live CD, I could not reproduce this issue. Compiz was on (by default). I could not test it with radeon.modeset=1, as that resulted in a non-booting system. The false sync reporting issue appears to have been fixed. However, in 9.04 when I exit glxgears using the window manager's
