Yesterday I upgraded to a new generic kernel image:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. The real problem in
this case is that X exits or crashes, a new session is then
automatically started. To find out why this happens, we need Xorg.0.log
for the session that crashed/exited. When the new session is started the
old one is moved to /var
By the way, the reason this happens for suspend/hibernate as well is
that there is a VT switch before this happens. So anything that breaks
on a VT switch (Ctrl+Alt+F1, etc.) also breaks on suspend and hibernate.
