I can understand that. However, on Karmic the nouveau drivers were
installable and working; I used them in place of the -nv ones for months
and they did not crash. Moreover, I noticed a net improvement of the
quality of the on-screen 2D rendering or, alas, gradients for example
did not have that

We've actually gone ahead and disabled nouveau for ppc, as it seems it
would need a ppc variant of linux-modules-backports which isn't
currently available. So hopefully with alpha-3 it should be loading
-nv. I'd love to see nouveau working with ppc some day, but I doubt
it's

http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/linux-backports-modules-nouveau-lucid-
generic on PPC wasn't available (which is a dep of xserver-xorg-video-
nouveau).

We have an all new nouveau driver in Lucid. I really don't know whether
or not it can be installed on PPC or if so, whether it should work. But
since we've done so much work on this driver, I'm optimistic. Would you
mind giving alpha-3 a spin on this hardware and see if this issue
