Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv
I've been using Jaunty with nvidia 180.44 successfully with my HP elitebook 8530w with nvidia Quadro FX 770, rev 161, and my HP L2335 external monitor, both running at 1920x1200 in twinview mode, using a CustomEDID option in the xorg.conf so that it can run over DVI-D (monitor is not detected by default). Yesterday I installed Karmic alpha 3, with some difficulty - X did not start, so had to install in text mode from alternate cd) - manually installed nvidia-180-kernel source - ran nvidia-xconfig - ran /etc/init.d/gdm start - got X running I also experienced the same following problem under Karmic and with Jaunty using the X-Updates PPA: - X starts ok - run nvidia-settings - external monitor is detected (even without the CustomEDID option in xorg.conf) - configure external monitor for twinview, using auto settings, display right of laptop screen, make primary - apply -> no display on external monitor, but laptop screen ok - after 15 seconds countdown timeout, or if try to change settings a second time, -> blank screen, cpu whirring -> manually power off by holding power button for 4 seconds (Ctrl-Alt-Del no effect) The same thing happens whether using xorg.conf generated from nvidia- xconfig, or working xorg.conf as used it Jaunty with CustomEDID option.
