You have been subscribed to a public bug: After installing 9.04 the system has started to freeze. No issue with 8.10 and earlier.
The screen suddely gets scrabbled and the system stops responding (to anything). Hard reset is the only way to regain control by restarting the system. :~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 9.04 Release: 9.04 MB: ASUS M2NPV-VM using the integrated GeForce 6150 GPU together with the proporitary nvidia-180 driver. I have tried older versions with no noticed impact. Visual desktop effects are disabled The problem comes randomly but seems to be related to system activity. Typical is when opening a mail message to read (evolution) or starting an application or responding to a dialog. Also performing the system update seems to trigger a "freeze". The frozen screen shows a very consistent picture (see attachment). A small fraction of the screen seems to be repeated causing a staggered pattern. The problem could possibly be unrelated to the graphics but since the screen consistently frozen I kind of lean towards blaming the graphics... Uptime before freeze between 1 minute to 1 day. Sometimes the drive lamp continues to indicate activity but perhaps that is only the state at freeze. After 1-2 weeks after a lot of reboots the sound started to be corrupted. I do not know if it is related and indicated broken HW or if the error is independent. Have tried to reinstall sound drivers to but no improvment. /Björn ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: jaunty -- system freeze (scrambled screen) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410003 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
