then? This IMHO is an important issue, it makes Ubuntu look absolutely
useless to average consumers, no average person would ever guess that
they have to right click something to stop this insane flickering.

If I right click something like the panel, the flickering stops after
the context menu appears, but it could sometimes make the gnome settings
deamon crash.
