I am also having this same problem. s-video is what's doing it. Both screens go blank, 'cept that small strip of color in the upper left corner of monitor #1(laptop screen) I can still see the mouse, and the only thing I can do is restart with the power button. It's incredibly annoying. I'm

Hi! This bug was known before I claimend it and the solution was already found. Only the thing you have to do is before setting the resolution, disable desktop effects (compiz). That worked for me. Details see also here:
