My solution:
1. sudo init 1 # for exiting from Xorg
2. # choose root shell in menu
3. Xorg -configure #
That may solve the garbled windows, but drops performance significantly
(scrolling a simple file list takes several seconds with EXA for me [ATI
Radeon M7])
