This bug report has been inactive for quite some time and in the
meantime Ubuntu has moved along. I hope the reported problem has been
resolved in the current version of Ubuntu. If it has not and there are
people willing to follow up with information collecting and testing, it
is best to file a

I was also experiencing this bug on a fresh install of Karmic.
According to a suggestion in a forum post, I disabled KMS (by adding
nomodesetting to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub), ran
sudo update-grub, rebooted, and now things are working splendidly. Is
KMS somehow at fault
How does X proceed when no EDID info is available?
IIRC, there was an option in Gutsy Gibbon (or was it Hardy?) to choose
the monitor in the display applet. Generic LCD panel options were there.

EDID was missing) which

available. So, dfrevert's comment on 2009-10-18, does not apply to this bug
because xrandr -s 1024x768 will give no such mode available.
Secondly, this problem does not
Bryce,
THanks!
But, as per my last comment on launchpad:

Fourthly, I cannot confirm now, but as I recall, when I had this intel

configured Xorg.conf with a Monitor section, specifying decent
refresh rates, this would be ignored, and
I want to thank you and the Ubuntu community of creating a fabulous Unix
distribution...I've fixed this problem by buying a new Radeon HD 4550
Graphics Card...I popped it into the computer and booted up to a
beautiful 1910 x 1080 screen without any Ubuntu display changes.
Impressive. However,
