I'd actually built mesa myself before I saw your comment, and yes,
reverting that upstream commit fixed the bug. I then tried your package
(7.6.0-1ubuntu2~bug446425~2) which, oddly enough, didn't fix it. Did
the patch not apply properly?

Upstream suggests this may be due to a patch recently included, which
was found to cause problems on kwin. They would like you to test
reverting that patch to confirm it is indeed the source of the problem.
