same here after yesterdays update. my notebook uses intel855gm chipset
for graphics. Fix needed.

It seems you are all using the intel driver from the xorg-edgers ppa.
In this driver support for user mode setting has been dropped. This
means you now have to use a kernel with modesetting (KMS) enabled. The
easiest way to do this is to install the kernel from the same ppa and
reboot using that
same here

I have this problem as well.
9.04 x64, kernel 2.6.28-15-generic, with intel GM965 graphics
running xserver-xorg-video-intel:
2:2.9.0~git20091007.03e8e64f-0ubuntu0tormod3~jaunty
After latest update, it goes to low graphics mode on startup. says:
(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver

Hello ghysmodos,
I had this problem too with the 2.6.28 kernel.
I upgraded to a newer kernel (2.6.30 at least) and followed this guide to
enable kernel modesetting:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting (Configuring KMS on Jaunty part)
This solved the problem for me.
