The problem does also occur if I plug-in the external monitor _after_
the laptop has booted. If I then go to the Gnome "Display Preferences"
and click "Detect Monitors" my X server freezes as described before.

I tried Ubuntu Studio (9.10 Beta) and it worked just fine! Also It worked in
Ubuntu 9.04!?
IS it a Kernel problem? Is there a way to upgrade from ubuntu to Ubuntu studio
(system) somehow??
