I found the problem! Apparently my motherboard has some design flaw. I have a
Gigabyte GA-MA780G-UD3H.
I read that it helps to Onboard VGA Output Support option in the Advanced
section of the bios and set it to D-Sub/HDMI, but I have not tried it yet
myself.
So no software problem. Bug closed.
I can see the bug has been moved to the fglrx-installer section but it also
happend when I used the open source driver.
I have to say that I have had more flicker in the OS now that I have changed to
the ATI driver. It is another kind of flicker. The image on the screen doesn't
jump but the ima
