I have the same problem using 10.10 amd64
The following lines solves my problem:
Xephyr :1 -noreset &
sleep 1
xkbcomp :0 :1
DISPLAY=:1 ssh -X u...@localhost gnome-session

Using -keybd ephyr,,,xkbmodel=evdev did work with Karmic but with Lucid
it doesn't fully work. When I press arrow up I get the Save Screenshot
window for example.

I can confirm that this bug is still present in Lucid amd64 and that
-keybd ephyr,,xkbmodel=evdev didn't helped. BTW, the same bug affects
Xnest too.
Another information, I`m from Brazil so I`m not using EUA keyboard
layout.

I can confirm that.
Especially without cursor keys it is in practice unusable.
I don't know, if the Problem is only in Karmic and not in previous
releases, but in Karmic YES.
