Binary package hint: xorg
Often when a large video is playing, or when there is otherwise a lot of
movement on screen (e.g. gnome-shell's overview zooming), the entire
display flickers and tears, as if it were a 3D texture being repeatedly
drawn incorrectly.
Irregular portions of the screen are redrawn in the wrong place, usually
a few hundred pixels to the left.
This happens with totem in uncomposited metacity, and with gnome-shell
(sometimes when totem isn't running).
The more movement there is on screen—it seems—the worse the picture
flickers.
