[i855gm] Xorg freezes after short time when stressed

It is probably best if you file a new bug for Lucid, since things may
have changed and we then don't need to separate the Karmic history from
the Lucid problem. It is likely that you have bug 541511, though.
Remember to update your system before filing a bug (we're now at
2:2.9.1-1ubuntu17 or so).
I've tried Lucid Beta 1 which provides xserver-xorg-video-intel
2:2.9.1-1ubuntu13. Same is still happening, though X.org now seems to
detect the crash and starts itself with vga16fg to have control of the
system.
Do I need to file a new bug for Lucid, or do you want to tag this bug
accordingly?

** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Affected system: Maxdata Pro 600i
Graphic Chip: Intel 855GM
Behaviour: System gets locally inresponsitive after a short time when
Xorg started. Mouse cursor is still moveable, but system doesn't react
on mouse
Using Rogers PPA xorg server 5:2.8.0-2-gb0aa94f and the actual main
kernel 2.6.31-16-generic did not solve the problem. Xorg was freezing at
GDM login prompt.

[This comment goes to freeze bugs on intel 855GM]
At bug 456902 (similar freezes on 845G) there is currently an effort to
find where xserver-xorg-video-intel and/or libdrm changed and so that
the freezes were triggered. Brian Rogers has a PPA that he is updating
libdrm and -intel until they catch
Thank you for the noPAE versions of the kernels and all the tests and
bug solving.
600 crashed after short time
599 was tested for ca. 30 minutes without crash (did some window movement,
glxgears, played videos and solitaire)
So this one seems to work pretty stable on Maxdata Pro 600i

Sorry about that! I was supposed to copy the .htaccess file to another
directory (for another bug) and ended up moving it instead. I
Dear Geir,
following the URL you posted in bug 447892
(http://www.kvante.info/855GMfreeze/) I get an HTTP error 403 Forbidden.
Is there an other place to get the kernels?

Daniel, at bug 447892 we have identified the commit to the kernel that
triggered the freezes for many people on 855GM chipsets. Could you also
test the before (599) and after (600) kernels to check if this is the
bad commit for you as well? See comment #59 at bug 447892 for details.
