Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

I have upgraded my Karmic from KDE 4.3.2 to 4.3.3. Everything worked
like a charm. But on Nov, 17 there was a Ubuntu upgrade (Kernel
2.6.31.15, Xorg, ...). After that I've done a reboot an my system hang
at starting the login manager (KDM). I have the same behavior on my
laptop an on my pc. My laptop uses intel graphics and kernel based mode
setting. I can't reach any console. The screen is blank or has some
stripes. The only thing I can do is a shutdown via power button. On my
pc I get the message that x could not be startet and some options will
be shown with low screen resolution. If I choose the failsafe one the
KDM starts as usually and the screen resolution is changed to full
(1980x1200). The pc has a NVidia graphics card build in. If I choose the
GDM as default everything woks fine. No errors, no freezes. What is
happend? It seems that KDM has some troubles but why?
