Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Hi there, I just bought a Philco PHN 10103 netbook. It came installed
with Mandriva 2009, which I wiped in order to install Ubuntu 9.10 i386
desktop.

However, the touchpad is not working, it is not detected.

Searching the forums for this specific model, I could find a solution at
a portuguese forum - http://ubuntuforum-pt.org/index.php?topic=59696.0 -
which suggests the following:

Create an xorg.conf by sudo X -configure

At xorg.conf, insert the following lines after the last section "InputDevice":
Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "SynapticsMouse1"
    Driver "synaptics"
    Option "SHMConfig" "on"
EndSection

At the end of the file, on the section "ServerLayout", add the following line:
InputDevice "SynapticsMouse1" "AlwaysCore"

It didn't worked, however. This model is not very popular, so I don't
know what else to do. All relevant files are on pastebin:

dmesg - http://pastebin.com/f617f8709
lshal - http://pastebin.com/f156f00b3
lspci -vvnn - http://pastebin.com/f669192b9
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log - http://pastebin.com/f5eb08644

uname -a returns

Linux mari-laptop 2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 16:20:31
UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

and cat /proc/version_signature

Ubuntu 2.6.31-17.54-generic

Any suggestions? I wouldn't like to use with an USB mouse.
