I'm still on Lucid's stock Xorg, and this is happening less and less,
now for the first time in three weeks, and the netbook is switched on
for hours every day.

- xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-1ubunt

better. We hear from upstream that a number of bugs (possibly including
this one) have been fixed in the newer DRM code from the 2.6.33 kernel.
