Correction: "when I boot" means after boot of course, not during boot.
So the first Desktop I see is OK, but then the lines come back when I
switch gtk theme.

I just tested the ppa and it's not completely fixed in there but I
noticed the following:
there are no lines on the edge of the screen when I boot. But they
appear each time I change to a new gtk theme.
