From your logs it looks like you're using the restricted nvidia drivers?
That would mean you were using nvidia-settings to change the screen
resolution. Is this correct?
If so, you need to run nvidia-settings as root in order to save the
changes you make. Does running “gksudo nvidia-settings”
I have changed the package selection to xorg-server.
