i noticed a few updates that were not going through... i selected udisks
package in synaptic, and got the related packages to update that way...
i dont know if these packages can effect the issue, but im unable to get
it to lock up since applying updates... i was able to trigger the issue

thanks bryce... im still trying to get into my box to do backtracing
while its locked... ctrl-alt-Fanynumber wont get me a terminal, but im
noticing some HD activity light action when i press the power key, which
makes me think i might get in over SSH or something... it seems to be
