Torsten, I recall some quirks and lid behavior changes that went into
the -intel driver subsequent to 8.04, so there could well be a patch out
there that could resolve this.
Be aware though that hardy uses UMS for modesetting, so the issue
probably doesn't exist for Karmic/Lucid since that whole
