Wolf Rogner, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com

My problem was clearly caused by the aborted update leaving some
packages in a state of limbo; I ran dpkg in recovery mode and it solved
the problem. I note several xorg packages were not installed properly
during the initial failed update.

gdm does not take input on login
I ran an update today, and the update caused my machine to freeze at
some point before completing. Upon rebooting my machine, I find that I
no longer have any input (mouse or keyboard) to the login screen. This
sounds like it is the same this as the present bug. Any ideas how I can
log in again?
the issue is rather an xorg one
