Yes unfortunately the problem is radeonhd is incompatable with KMS which is the default for the radeon kernel module. If you want to use radeonhd you will have to disable KMS You can see it is in use and causing the issue here from your log - (II) RADEONHD(0): Found radeon drm 2.0.0. drm 2.0.0

Hi, I was using radeon with good success under Ubuntu 9.10, but it didn't work at all after upgrading to 10.04, so I switched to radeonhd. Thanks for reminding me - I'll try to reproduce the radeon problems and file a separate bug report for that (Mobility X1400 seems rather ill-fated in lucid).

BTW, you are aware that the default ati/radeon driver most likely works better with your card? You can uninstall xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd if you like. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- [RV515] Thinkpad T60: black screen after booting

The above attachment is a copy of /var/log/dmesg. I just noticed the current dmesg output contains a few additional lines: ---cut--- [ 22.261995] mtrr: base(0xd800) is not aligned on a size(0x7ff8000) boundary [ 22.272724] [drm:radeon_cp_setparam_kms] *ERROR* invalid ioctl with kms radeo
