I have the same problem on a Vaio VPCCW1S1E whic uses:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 230M]
(rev a2)
at the moment I cannot use driver nouveau (which actually cause my screen going
black and making laptop useless) and probably cannot give useful report.

Managed to install with alternate install; then:
* boot with the alternate
* mounted my new install, chrooted inside them
* copied /dev directory to /$mntpoint/dev, mount proc to /$mntpoint/proc
* edit /etc/default/grub, added nomodeset to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
*
I confirm this bug. Sony vaio Cw with Nvidia Gt230m.

Hi Bryce,
I sent the information with apport. But I should inform you that I can
not login to my system with nouveau even with a vt. So I disabled
nouveau and now using nvidia binary drivers with the famous :) EDID
hack. I hope this information will be helpful for you.
