- Using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS through SD duo stick with 4.1 Gigs. Its not installing
proprietary graphics. Tried twice. wanted to see how it performed. Installed
other apps perfectly.
- VGA settings are having a hard time manually centering desktop on 37 inch LCD
monitor.
Error also occurs on Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha 1

You're right, still had libgl1-mesa-glx 7.8.0~git20100304.4c0c728b-
0ubuntu0sarvatt~karmic installed.

If you don't have that link then maybe you're not using the standard
mesa or something else went wrong.
What's the output of the following command?
apt-cache policy libgl1-mesa-glx

nvidia-96.postinst fails at
current_glconf=$(readlink -e /etc/ld.so.conf.d/GL.conf)
because the symlink doesn't exist.
I removed this line and it installs.
