After some searching through the web I found out that it seems to be
somehow connected to subpixel font rendering. By turning it off, OOO not
only is ugly but runs without freezing X.

I may be wrong but I don't think OOo should be able to freeze xorg.
Reassigning to xorg to see what Bryce thinks.
