You have been subscribed to a public bug: I am using Ubuntu 10.04 in my PC. Now I connected LCD monitor through LCD TV BOX (External Tuner Card) and hence I can not increase screen resolution. I can only select only 800x600 and 640x480.
The out of 'xrandr' is Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 800 x 600, maximum 800 x 600 default connected 800x600+0+0 0mm x 0mm 800x600 60.0* 56.0 640x480 60.0 When I connect LCD monitor with out Tuner card there is no problem.
