Chris: This is definitely NOT bug 572550. The bars are completely offscreen, the mouse is limited only to the boundaries of the (empty) desktop, and the display does not autopan. I was able to activate gnome-terminal and ran apport-collect 629881 while in a simple (not failsafe) gnome login.
