We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the
original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to
reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against
the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this
AFAICS, all the attached logs show 800x600 being used. Anyway, the Gnome
failsafe option does not affect the monitor probing in the driver, which
here seems to fail to get any EDID information. Maybe Gnome applies a
strange DPI value? Do you have a .config/monitors.xml file?

This is definitely NOT bug 572550. The bars are completely offscreen,
the mouse is limited only to the boundaries of the (empty) desktop, and
the display does not autopan.
I was able to activate gnome-terminal and ran apport-collect 629881

Are the bars actually offscreen, or are they mis-rendered (like in bug

If they're offscreen then it should be possible to move the mouse up out
of the visible area and open them. Given the resolutions of your
monitors, if the smaller one has been detected as the primary output
