I would characterise the behaviour of the mouse as stick. Once the 'mouse-down' is detected, the 'mouse up' is delayed causing a lot of problems with hovering over icons, scrollbar sticking, highlight misbehavior. The new driver seems peppier, but has many similar problems as the former version (.

Sorry, that is 96.43.18. Seems like the UI is more responsive; I will do more testing. It appears that the problem had to do with duration of the mouse down after a single click. Unfortunatelly, because I was banging hard and repeatedly on my mouse button, it broke. This is a Dell Inspiron 8200,

I have created an additional user, shutdown, and rebooted the machine. The resulting desktop's contents is much reduced (as expected) - connected to wireless required me to enter the password to my pop. Tried firefox, openoffice write, same problems with UI even though machine is much less loaded
