Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
Using the Nouveau driver for the "nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 330M] (rev a2)" on my Sony Vaio VPCF12M1E, the detected screen resolution (i.e. without xorg.conf) is wrong. It should be 1920x1080, but when I select this resolution in the GNOME screens configuration, right and down parts of the display are not on the screen. I guess there is something with the display ratio which is not right. In GDM, before any display settings has been set, the virtual resolution looks much higher than it should. I tried the X-Update PPA because I thought it could solve my problem, but it is present as well on "vanilla" 10.04. Note that: - using the proprietary nVidia driver is even worst (maximal available resolution detected is extremely low, and nothing fits in the screen). - the touchpad does not work either out of the box, you have to add i8042.pnp to the kernel boot line to get it to work. - I'm an experienced UNIX/Linux user (including on the desktop and playing with XFree86/Xorg). I just would like to make it the best way, and get it fixed in Ubuntu at the same time. Do you have any idea of what I should try to make it work? I would certainly not recommend those laptops to run Ubuntu 10.04 for now.
