Actually the problem of the original bug reporter Max was quite different of
yours and Alan's. So in that regard I was requesting you to file another bug
report that mentions yours and Alan's issue so I can close this bug report.
Still, no problem I will do that for you..

This issue stands. I can confirm with 100% certainty, that it is a
software problem and not a grapefruit juice mishap as Max mentioned.
Yes, the lower part is completely dead no motion of the cursor at all.
Both xev and evtest produce no events. This happens to me on ubuntu
@Max
oh!!
Then I think we should close the bug report here as the bug report has an issue
that is quite different being discussed here.
So I request Alan or julio to file a new bug report in this regard and
subscribe me there, so that we can resume the discussion there. After
that I will close
I will be unable to provide any additional info regarding this bug I
reported, as the hardware I was experiencing it on has had an
unfortunate encounter with some grapefruit juice, and is now quite dead.

@ Juliobahar
Is your lower part of the touchpad completely dead(not even motion of cursor)
or just scrolling problem. You can actually run evtest and see that your lower
part of touchpad is actually producing events or not by omitting the '>evtest'
in the evtest command.

@ Alan
Your issue with your touchpad is quite different from this one, I would
recommend you to search a more relevant bug report or file a new bug report if
you do not find anything appropriate.

You are welcome juliobahar,
I want the log with no events after you press 'a'. But remember to try to
produce events using lower part of the touchpad. Do same for evtest also.

Thank you for your fast reply but there are no events generated when I
horizontally scroll rubbing the lower portion of my touchpad. It seems that it
does not trigger an instance.
Besides I can't enable horizontal scroll using gpointing-device-settings.

ah!!, So many logs.
ok, but the logs xev and evtest are not very readable. There is too much noise.
Upload the said logs again using this technique.
When the xev window pops, point your mouse pointer in that window and
press a keyboard key (say a). Now without doing anything else, try to

I have the same issue with my newly installed ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. That was
never there with 10.04 32-bit.
on my x100e Thinkpad Lenovo, the lower (bottom) edge doesn't seem to move the
pointer besides horizontal scrolling is impossible.
