Thanks for testing maverick during its development period.
Unfortunately it looks like this bug report didn't get attention during

On a HP 8440p, I use the external monitor through the Display Port (and
adapter to DVI). The monitor will not work unless I switch it on and
immediately plug it in just after I power on the laptop (basically, I have to

Display is automatically detected and desktop extended every time I plug
display in with DP cable and it doesn't need to be connected at boot.
