You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have a PC with Ubuntu10.04 and video card S3 VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266] and I'm trying to run some 3D games with at least a satisfactory performance, but I can not. I know that this chipset hasn't a good 3D support in Linux, but I did a test with Linux Mint Debian (LMDE) and the video came with a very acceptable performance, as this comparison:
$ glxgears (On Ubuntu 10.04) 299 frames in 5.0 seconds 347 frames in 5.0 seconds 373 frames in 5.0 seconds 378 frames in 5.0 seconds $ glxgears (On LMDE) 1249 frames in 5.0 seconds 1147 frames in 5.0 seconds 1107 frames in 5.0 seconds 1278 frames in 5.0 seconds Furthermore, I discovered that Ubuntu doesn't use the correct driver for the card for 3D acceleration and do insist on doing software acceleration, which is slower than hardware acceleration: $ glxinfo | grep render (On Ubuntu) direct rendering: Yes OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer $ glxinfo | grep render (On LMDE) direct rendering: Yes OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI ProSavageDDR 20061110 AGP 1x x86/MMX/SSE2 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: xorg 1:7.5+5ubuntu1 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-27-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Thu Jan 20 11:53:32 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=pt_BR:pt:en LANG=pt_BR.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.32-27-generic ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-savage (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: 3d acceleration dri hardware i386 lucid savage -- Ubuntu 10.04 doesn't set hardware acceleration on ProSavageDDR video card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/705464 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-savage in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
