@Salva, since you have a different video card and seem to have narrowed
it to your video driver, I think it would be better for you to file as a
separate bug report. If you could re-test against oneiric (or even
precise) that would be a help. File the bug using the command:
ubuntu-bug xorg
I'm sorry, I don't have this laptop anymore (it was from my previous
work, and my new laptop has intel card).

this is happening to me in a lenovo t61 in kubuntu natty when using
nouveau drivers. no problem on nvidia drivers though. somewhere I saw
that actually this was a problem in X11 and other free drivers were also
suffering same symptoms.
this is a bit annoying, hopefully it will be fixed soon...
I have to say that in my case the fail is only when I try to suspend
after disabling the external monitor
