Solved it: As noted in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2154044highlight=enter+the+administrative+password gksu-properties was set to su instead of sudo. Wasn't related to amdcccle. I had exact the same issue when trying to upgrade the VirtualBox Extension pack. Both act normal now. --

Patch attached for Kubuntu. Could someone add code for Ubuntu? The problem is that in su_gnome(), amdxdg-su looks for gnomesu and xsu, but these don't exist. It looks simple enough to look for gksudo instead/as well. HOWEVER detectDE() inspects $GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID, the value of which is
