Actually it seems as it has been fixed upstream. As you can see I
already used the Xorg config but it didn't work at the time of bug
reporting. This bug can probably be closed.

The -evdev driver no longer provides middle mouse button emulation. 2-button
mice that need this functionality are quite rare these days. The emulation mode
causes a laggy pointer
