You have been subscribed to a public bug: Am using an external keyboard on a laptop (Dell Studio 1555) and have noticed that on any external keyboard if I press Caps Lock on the laptop's own keyboard that the LED will not light on the external keyboard, although anything that I type on that keyboard will be capitalized. this was not a huge problem but I also recently got my hands on a Noppoo Choc Pro keyboard which apparently reports to the PC as several different keyboard controllers to achieve NKRO over USB and on that keyboard the Caps Lock LED does not function at all. I did verify that it functions 100% correctly in Windows 7, so it does not appear to be a problem with the keyboard, rather, I suspect that the Caps Lock key and the Caps Lock LED are reporting on two different virtual keyboard controllers. If I use the Noppoo keyboard as a PS/2 keyboard and then connect it to the PC through a Belkin active PS/2 to USB adapter, the Caps Lock LED functions correctly.
