Same problem on Xubuntu 11.10. Live-CD didn't show any graphics, so I installed with the alternate CD, hoping for additional drivers. Installation and boot went well. I ran the Oneiric LiveCD on an HP 6735 AMD Sempron laptop on which Maverick was working well, and I got a dim screen. Impossible to turn screen brighter. These video problems don't seem to be a distribution-specific bug but a regression in the Linux kernel since they affect more than one distribut
