Public bug reported: Xorg didn't detect that my screen could do 1600x1200. I have to set it each time I log in with "xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1600x1200" and then use the display configuration tool to use the larger resolution.
(Hopefully apport gives you the info you need to know. I don't know what else you need to know, but I'm willing to get more information if you need it).
