with Lucid, Ubuntu is transitioning to using the -nouveau video driver

(and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've
made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

I just installed Jaunty (64-bit) on a new machine with a GeForce 9800GT
and the Free driver doesn't control the fan. The proprietary driver is
OK, but obviously not the ideal solution.
Personally I think this is a hardware issue, as the machine is very
noisy until the OS loads the
