Public bug reported: Oneiric originally worked fine, but after a recent update (sadly not sure exactly what package versions, but one or two weeks ago) this started happening:
The system boots fine and everything works, but once I close and re-open the laptop lid, the screen is black (no backlight) and won't wake back up (no matter how many times I close and re-open the lid). This is on AC power. In my power management settings, I have "When the lid is closed" set to "Do nothing" (i.e. just blank the screen) for both AC power and battery. The system is still running (I think) but the display stays black. The only way (that I have found) to recover is to reboot. If I switch to a text console before closing the lid, it blanks and unblanks fine. Trying to switch to text console _after_ the screen has gone into permablack has no effect.
